1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how FaceRefine ("FaceRefine," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the FaceRefine iOS app. It also explains our facial-data practices in detail.
2. Photos and face data we process
You choose whether to provide a photo from your photo library or camera. To place portrait effects accurately, FaceRefine may derive the following data from a selected photo:
- a face bounding box and normalized facial landmark coordinates, including points around the face contour, eyes, eyebrows, nose, lips, and pupils;
- estimated head pose values, such as roll, yaw, and pitch; and
- temporary region masks used to target edits such as skin smoothing, eye, lip, teeth, cheek, and blemish adjustments.
This derived information is referred to in this policy as face data. FaceRefine does not use face data to identify you, authenticate you, determine your identity, infer sensitive traits, or create an advertising profile.
3. How face data is used
Face data is used only to provide the editing functions you request: locating facial regions, rendering previews, applying edits consistently, replaying your local edit history, and producing an exported image.
Before FaceRefine starts facial landmark analysis, the app presents an on-device face-processing notice and asks for your permission. If you do not allow this processing, FaceRefine will close the selected image and facial editing cannot proceed.
4. On-device processing and sharing
Photo and face-data analysis is performed inside the FaceRefine app on your device using Apple Vision and bundled MediaPipe components. FaceRefine does not transmit your selected photos, facial landmark coordinates, head-pose values, or editing masks to our servers.
We do not sell, rent, disclose, or share face data with third parties. Firebase and RevenueCat, described below, do not receive your selected photos, facial landmarks, or editing masks from FaceRefine.
If you choose to export or share an edited image, iOS sends that exported image only to the destination you select. That destination handles the image under its own terms and privacy practices.
5. Storage and retention of photos and face data
Temporary processing data
Working masks and intermediate rendering data are held in memory for the editing session and are discarded when no longer needed or when the session ends.
Local projects and drafts
FaceRefine automatically keeps local editing projects so you can continue your work. A local project may contain the source photo, original and current edited images, edit actions, and facial landmark snapshots associated with those actions. Draft and project data remains in the app's private storage on your device until you delete it or uninstall FaceRefine. We have no server-side copy and therefore no server retention period for photos or face data.
6. Your controls and deletion
- Delete an individual project from the Recent Edits project menu.
- Open Settings → Privacy & Terms → Delete local projects & face data to remove all local FaceRefine projects, stored photos, facial landmark snapshots, and drafts.
- Turn off On-device face processing in Settings to withdraw permission for future facial analysis. Existing local projects remain until you delete them.
- Uninstall FaceRefine to remove its app container from the device.
Deletion from inside FaceRefine is permanent and cannot be undone.
7. Analytics, diagnostics, and subscriptions
Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics. FaceRefine may use Firebase to understand app usage and diagnose crashes. This may include app events, device and operating-system information, app version, approximate technical information, and crash diagnostics. It does not include the photos or face data described above. You can turn off analytics in FaceRefine Settings. Crash diagnostics may still be processed when necessary to investigate app reliability.
RevenueCat and Apple. FaceRefine uses RevenueCat and Apple's App Store services to display, process, restore, and manage subscriptions. They may process purchase status, product identifiers, transaction identifiers, subscription dates, and technical identifiers needed to operate subscriptions. FaceRefine does not send your photos or face data to them.
These providers process their own service data under their privacy policies: Firebase Privacy, RevenueCat Privacy, and Apple Privacy.
8. Photo library and camera permissions
FaceRefine requests access to the photo library or camera only when needed for the action you select. You can change these permissions in iOS Settings. The app does not scan your photo library for unrelated content.
9. Children
FaceRefine currently has a global App Store age rating of 4+, with regional exceptions. People of different ages may use the app. Selected photos and face data are processed on the device and are not uploaded to our servers. A parent or guardian should supervise a child's photo selection, editing, and sharing, and can use iOS permission controls and FaceRefine's local deletion tools.
10. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when FaceRefine's features or legal obligations change. The effective date above will be revised when changes are published.
